Description
This image features the oldest standing bridge that crosses the River Seine in Paris, France, Pont-Neuf. Constructed in 1578, this beautiful stone structure stands by the Ile de la Cite, and connects the first arrondissement to the sixth. It was the first stone bridge built in the city. It's design with arches is reminiscent of Roman architecture and was the first bridge to have a pedestrian sidewalk included for the populace with a surface that was inspired by ancient Roman roads. It has quite a fascinating history! I captured this image earlier this summer while enjoying an afternoon boat trip with my husband on the Seine. Thanks for visiting my gallery! I hope you will enjoy viewing my other many Parisian photos as well!
