Description
One of the most famous images of Japan, from the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto, Japan, these columns of gates of seemingly endless torii, colored in a beautiful bright orange, are decorated with gorgeous black Japanese script. Impressive and dramatic, these columns are dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari, goddess of rice who provides assistance with a good harvest and associated with success in business. Many hundreds of tourists traverse through this shrine just about every day, enjoying this site that reportedly dates back to 711. It is the head shrine of the largest shrine network in Japan, with approximately 32,000 members.
