This digital photograph features a sculpture of Chief Justice John Marshall, the founder of judicial review and the American system of constitutional law. Marshall served as an officer in the Continental Army under George Washington and when the war was over, he became a lawyer and a political figure. He was appointed Secretary of State when John Adams became president, and then Marshall became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, even holding both positions at the same time for a while. This sculpture is the copy of one placed on the grounds of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., created by William Wetmore Story. William was a former lawyer, a talented artist, musician and poet, and also the son of Joseph Story, an associate justice on the Supreme Court and author of Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States. Hi there! Hope you are enjoying visiting my galleries and thanks for stopping by! Here's some information about me and my journey as an artist. My fascination with creating art began as a child at the age of five, drawing with oil pastels and painting with acrylics. I still recall the great fun I had playing with paint at the easel in kindergarten, just wanting that opportunity to go on forever. Thankfully I have never lost the thrill of having a paint brush in my hand. As a young person, I took art classes throughout elementary and high school, and then continued with classes in drawing, painting and photography at the college level (Boston University, Arcadia University and LaSalle University).
